Im thinking of upgrading to the radeon rx 480 GPU but ive seen that it has an 8 pin connection.

Should I use an adapter from 6 to 8 pin?

My current PSU is a G7 extreme 780w.

Im not looking to overclock and im not sure what my motherboard is.

Any help would be great

Theoretically, you could get 6 pin to 8 pin adapter. Your PSU rails are rated for 18A each, 18A x 12V= 216W, which is sufficient for this graphic card if it is not overclocked, and if nothing else is connected to that rail.

^ in agreement with blackbird , its an absolute bag of skank hec unit from about the 2010 era.
The rails aren't even close to whatbuts rated, its essentially a poor quality 550w unit for starters.
Hec make some half decent psu's , that is not one of them.

Spending £200+ on a new GPU , I'd budget a another £50 for a decent quality psu aswell.
