Hard drive sometimes disappears

Hello,

I built my PC a few weeks ago and one day when I went to load one of my games (which was installed on my hard drive), it wouldn't load and so I restarted my PC and when I went back onto steam all of my games weren't there. I then checked 'My Computer' and the Hard Drive wasn't showing up. The hard drive re-appears once I have completely powered down my PC and turned it off at the wall and then everything runs fine again. I can now tell when it's going to happen as the hard drive is slow when loading folders stored on it and so I checked the BIOS and it is not showing up in there either therefore it can't be the OS.

I have tried changing the SATA cable, SATA port and have also changed the power cable and have had no luck.

My hard drive is a WD Black 2TB and here is my PC part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/WJ6QRG

I have also tried running the Windows error check and no errors have shown up. Also, here is a screenshot of CrystalDiskInfo, I'm unsure on what all of the info means but thought I'd provide it in case it is showing anything which indicates there is a problem with my hard drive.

Hey there, @SamG97!

I'm sorry to hear about your connectivity issues with the WD Black. I'd recommend you check how the HDD would get recognized in another system, if you have access to a different PC. If the problem is not present there, you should check your motherboard manufacturer's official website for any SATA controller & Chipset driver updates. Another thing you should also take a look at while there is the BIOS version - make sure you got the latest one installed.
Have you also tried Resetting BIOS?
Either way, I'd strongly recommend you backup all important data from your WD Black before you proceed with the troubleshooting. This is the surest way to avoid any potential data loss. Better safe than sorry, right...
