HDD Enclosure Usb 2.0 when connected to Usb ports will not show either My Pc or on desktop Wins 8.1 Usb ports are okay. Have restarted Pc with Ex Drive connected but no use.
Was working before

Solution
Is it spinning up? In case it is, then you can see if it is recognized by Disk Management.
In case it is not, and taking into account you've used a different cable, then there's something wrong with the enclosure or the HDD itself.

I believe you can attach it internally, to a desktop machine with SATA and power cables. If the drive is nowhere to be recognized even then, then It has most probably failed.

Hi there jd71,

You should really provide some more information on the issue you are facing.

Are you using some sort of a third party enclosure? (if not, what is the model of the external device?)
Is the drive recognized by Disk Management? Is there any important data stored on the drive?

Something simple you can start with is to just attach the device with a different USB cable. Is the drive even powering up?

Let me know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

Just taken enclosure off and found this
It is a Seagate 80 Gb from an old pc which I have been using as an external storage. The 2 front usb ports are not working now. The ex drive lights up when pluged into usb port. Same with laptop. Tried different cables.
Is there a way of recorvering the data on it
