Hello guys,

So last year I built my own computer for the first time ever (i5 4460, 8GB RAM (2x 4gb), GTX 970) and I was verry happy when everything worked the first time. This is when my Dual Channel Ram was working. However 1 day after I built my computer I was playing CS GO and my computer shut down and it didnt want to boot anymore. I took everything out (except the cpu) and started putting every piece back together again and I still had the same issue. I then moved my ram stick next to the other one (so running in single channel) and it started booting again. I started reading about the disadvantages of single channel etc and decided to leave it at that since it wasnt very big of a deal then especially with the games I played.

However now with BF1 im feeling the disadvantages of single channel and I want to know what my options are. So bare in mind that my Dual Channel RAM worked the first day and then it stopped working the next day. (I think im excluding the bend/damaged cpu pins this way). So is it more likely that it's related to my motherboard or is it somehow also possible that its my RAM sticks somehow not working on dual channel anymore?

Im asking this because replacing the motherboard is gonna be a pain in the ass, especially if im gonna RMA it etc. But replacing RAM will be easier obviously.

Thanks

Solution
If they work in single channel mode the DRAM is fine, would suspect the CPU cooler may be too tight in a corner or side (loosen and snug down screw tight) - could also be bent/broken pins - those are the two most likely culprits
