New SSD not recognized in BIOS

I am trying to install a SSD to my fathers desktop. He has an all-in-one prebuilt Lenovo Think Centre that does not allow me to add the SSD internally, so I bought a Sabrent connector that allows me to plug it in externally via USB. The other HD that the Think Centre has is a WD 80 GB.

The issue I am having here is that when I boot and go into the BIOS, the SSD is not showing up in order for me to partition it. Ive been following this guide and I get stuck at Step 3

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/265764-32-guide-installed-disk-system

I'm not sure how to proceed with this. Should I just get a new computer, or is it worth the time to devote to this issue?

Edit: I am able to see the SSD in the "disk management" as circled. So the OS is recognizing it, but I can't see if the BIOS recognizes the SSD.

Did you want to be able to boot from this drive, or were you just looking at using the SSD to put programs and such on?

Edit: The reason it's not showing up in the BIOS is because the drive isn't connected via a SATA cable, rather it's connected with USB and would be considered a USB drive. USB Drives don't always show up in BIOS.

I was looking to use the SSD to have programs and to boot off of.

And that does make a lot of sense. In this case, would I be able to somehow connect the SSD via SATA cable, even though the way the computer components have been set up won't allow me to? Not only is there only one slot and one SATA cable internally, but the other port that the cable is attached to is blocked by a metal casing that isn't removable. If taking a picture would be more helpful, let me know.

Hi

A pc with a 80GB hard disk is very old and probably not worth upgrading

Is it actually a sata interface or pata interface for the hard disk?
The BIOS In Modern pc's will see usb devices

the device manager & disk management consol must see the hard disk
(Internal or external) to partition and format it before windows (explorer) can use the disk

Are you sure the internal hard disk can not be replaced ?
It may not be easy but it is possible

Is the internal hdd 2.5" or 3.5"?
If 3.5" you can get adapter trays which can hold a 2.5" disk

#1:If you're just looking to put programs on it, that should be relatively easy.
#2:If you're looking to load up windows on it, that'll be a bit more complicated using an external SSD, but there are ways to do it and have it as your boot device if that's what you desire.

If #1 you should be able to right click on the unallocated space (just right to where it shows disk 1). After doing so it should show an option to set a "new volume" or "new simple volume" after choosing - hit next - then type in the number of MB's of space that you would like that partition be, It's usually defaulted to the whole drive so you should be able to just hit next or continue. After that's done then you should have full access to the drive and be able to access it (for example) by going to my computer and double clicking the drive to open it.

If #2 then let me know, I'll see if i can find some youtube videos and the software to help aid you.
