PC boots into BIOS without error but can't boot into any OS

As the title says, I can boot into the BIOS fine (without repeatable errors, though sometimes the system won't boot at all until I unplug it and wait a while), but not into an OS.
It just starts into the BIOS again, even when I choose the hard drive as boot override. When attempting to boot from an USB stick without an OS I do get a "No operating system" error though.
The system had been running fine for about 2 years.
I've tried it with my hard drive running Debian Jessie (on multiple ports), as well as the USB I installed the OS with (USB 2.1 IIRC, also tried with multiple ports).

System:
MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Gene
CPU: Intel i5-4460
RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport (tried with only 1 stick too)
Graphics card: Asus GeForce GTX 750 Ti (also tested with integrated too)
Hard drive: Seagate Desktop HDD 1TB
Power supply: Cooler Master B500 v2

Also brand new CMOS battery.

I'm heavily suspecting a CPU problem but I'm not 100% sure.

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, @hemerythrin!

This sounds pretty unfortunate. Have you checked if you have the latest BIOS version installed? I'd advise you to do so by going to the motherboard manufacturer's official website. Another thing you could try is resetting BIOS again and then re-configure the boot priority to see if that will help you detect any bootable device. You mentioned that you have swapped between different ports, but I'd also recommend you swap the SATA cable itself that is connecting the HDD to the motherboard and reseat its connection to the PSU.
If you are trying to boot from the USB ports, make sure that they are enabled through the BIOS settings as well.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! :)
