i got a GA M720 s3 rev 1 mobo that is able to run am3 cpu but i was running and still am an x64 4200

just obtained an AMD Phenom II X4 955 be which is way stronger and wanted to test it but it wont boot
fans spin but.it wont do anything apart from restarting in a loop

then i checked bios version its 6;
5 is needed for the quadcore to be compatible with the mobo so it cant be a problem
also the cpu heats up while doing the loop ad infinitum so it must work even though it never boots!?!?
whenever i replace it with the older cpu the PC boots right away and takes me to the OS
i also combed the pins on the New CPU knowing AMD lol

the guy i took the CPU from; tore it out from the socket along with the heatsink so maybe he ruined it but i doubt it
i scraped the CPU off the heatsink and then tried to install it i doubt that pure alcohol would ruin a CPU unlike men lol

any thoughts?

should i just migrate over to intel? lol

I once had a broken CPU pin and it worked fine. It depends on if the broken pin was a no connect pin or not. Bit as long as its not a vcc or core pin, it should work.

Did you upgrade bios or made sure you mono supports it? Also its a 125 w CPU so you need a motherboard that supports it

There are three different revisions of the Phenom II 955. Your board supports them on the F3, F5, and F7N BIOS respectively. So maybe this one needs the F7N BIOS? To be safe I'd try that and see if it works. I'm assuming your board is the GA M720 US3 board given the GA M720 ES3 doesn't have an F6 BIOS.
