So I have a small problem.

PC specs:
MSI M5 Z170
i7 6700k
650watt PSU - Corsair
EVGA 980 Ti
256gb SSD

I have 3 other HDD's which I want to use (one of which is an SSD)
Since I keep running out of space for all the new games (40+ gb ones) for my single 250gb SSD
So I decided to try installing of the 3 I had, first one was my old 1tb one.. nope. The mobo FLASHES once when I press the power button, won't turn on.

I unplug it, and computer turns on perfectly fine.

I tried the SSD, mobo flashes once and turns off.

Same with the BRAND new 2tb I got a while ago, computer powers on for half a second, mobo flashes and powers off.

I've sort of gotten it pinned down, it's not the SATA cable coming from the motherboard, but the SATA cable coming from the PSU that seems like it causes the issue (but what do I know). I'm currently looking for a different SATA cable to try and power the HDD but nothing yet, otherwise my computer works perfectly fine.

(although lately I've been getting really bad memory leak since upgrading to Windows 10... like crippling performance with Memory usage going to 99% when downloading large games, even though I have like 15-20gb left over AFTER game would be downloaded)

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, @Amarble!

It does sound like there's something faulty in the connection to your secondary hard drives, which is why your computer fails to boot properly when you connect them. I'd recommend you check how the drives would appear with a different SATA cable and also try swapping the SATA port itself on the motherboard. If you have access to another computer, you should also check how both your old HDD and your new one are recognized there. This could help us determine the source of the issue and proceed with the troubleshooting accordingly.

If the Windows 10 update has caused any spikes in the hardware usage, check the Resource monitor to see what processes could be spiking it.

Hope this helps. Good luck...
