Help! I cant view my DVR on my laptop

I have a DVR on my LAN, but all my effort for view it from my laptop never yield a good result. My computer is running on window 7. When I open my IE and type in my DVR ip address (192.168.1.8:8000) it ask me to download newactive.exe which always refuse to be downloaded. Kindly help me out, folks.

What brand? Browser support for these things is terrible. You could try downloading XIQCMS instead of using the browser. It's very simple to set up and you can monitor/play back from multiple DVRs, set up dynamic dns etc etc.
