My desktop PC which I've used for ~2 years has a 128 GB SSD (Kingston) for OS and drivers and a 1TB HDD (western digital) for pretty much everything else. Both worked fine w/ win 10 for an year, but after I had to change my M/B windows can't seem to find the HDD. My BIOS can find it (so connections should be fine) but it's not visible in windows. Adminstrator or not, Device management, Disk management and resource management (the words may be wrong since my windows is in finnish and these are google translations) don't have the HDD.

Hi there ojakokko,

I'm really sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(

I believe you've reinstalled Win, once you've changed the MOBO right?

It could be a driver related issue. You can go to your MOBO's website and update drivers. Also, I believe you can attach the drive to different SATA ports, that are, perhaps, on another controller.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

"""""""""""""""Hi,
I've just had a similar problem. I installed Windows 8 on a new computer with just drive C installed and then added my extra SATA drives to copy my data from the old PC. They were recognised in the BIOS but didn't show in Device Manager or Administrative Tools. New Motherboard, new disks so no old incompatabilities.

My fix was purely by accident. I was in Admin Tools and saw "Memory Diagnostic Tools" and clicked on it as I've never seen it before.

After Windows rebooted after the test, all my drives were there!

Why it worked I have no idea but it did. Hope this helps.""""""""""""""""""""""""

comes from http://www.overclock.net/t/1304039/hard-drive-shows-up-in-bios-but-not-windows/10

AndyP...I created an account just to say that worked. Cheers man.

does too.

I've not encountered this particular problem so I can't tell you anything from personal experience. Windows Memory Diagnostic tool is still in Windows 10's Admin tool list.

You can ask for one by making a new thread asking for a mod to unselect current solution. Make sure you include a link to this question.

After enough posts there should be an uunselect solution button(name may be different).

I really can't reinstall my windows, since i only have the install media for win 8.1 and the free update is no longer provided. All the drivers are updated to the newest version. I don't think there's anything wrong with the hardware, and this is a problem with windows.
