So i tried my first over clock on my pc that i built in late February, link to build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/dan_b_16/saved/#view=3V9MnQ
But even on stock speeds running an aida64 system stability test my temps reach high 70s and low 80s. are these ok? i want to overclock, i had it @ 4.6ghz on 1.22v but it kept running to high 80s and low 90s on the same test. i have seen others with higher speeds and voltage with lot less temps with similar coolers (aio liquid cooler) so im not sure what to do? should i re mount the cooler with higher grade paste? move my pc from under my desk (its on carpet but i put a piece of wood under it to keep it off the floor) or is it my cpu and i have to deal with what i have?
Any response is appreciated, thanks.

The more clockspeed and voltage you add, the lower your temps should be for stability. A combination of voltage and temperature are what cause degradation of CPUs. At stock speeds, 90c probably wouldn't significantly affect the life of your chip, but at higher voltages it might well.

That said, the stock 4.2ghz 4-core turbo is only about 9% slower than 4.6ghz, which is a small enough difference that I doubt you'd be able to perceive it in anything. I'd probably just leave the CPU stock.

temps are NOT ok.

You are running pretty high temps even on stock clock.

Yes it would probably be a good idea to re-do the thermal paste although... there is one thing to do before moving straight to that.

How's your airflow in the case? is ambient (room temp) high? near a heater? Did you configure your water cooler fans correctly?

also, you could download your motherboard software (utility), it's likely that the utility program has 1 click overclock to 4.6Ghz without playing with the settings in your bios (it will auto overclock with good stability)

Using the nzxt H440 case has only a side vent at the front but it has a sizeable gap from the wall and no radiators on nearby, the ambient temperature when the pc is off is about 18 but gets up to around 21 when the pc is on and the fans on the cpu radiator are set to full speed all the time through the msi bios so im not sure whats up. im probably going to move the pc onto the desk to give better air flow but having 3 monitors on the desk doesn't lead to much spear room. but thanks for your reply.

with that program i might get lower teps but i want to be on the safe side and go with what ever gives the higher temps
