Hi, here's my stituation.

I recently upgraded my GTX 650 Ti 2gb to a Zotac AMP Edition GTX 1060 6gb Video Card and whenever I play battlefield 1 the GPU usage is only at 30-60% at times while the CPU Usage is at 96-100% all the time.

This lead me to the conclusion that my GPU is obviously getting bottlenecked thanks to the CPU.

So now, I am very interested in the upcoming AMD "Summit Ridge" Zen 8 Cores/ 16 Threads CPU and Intel Kaby-lake Desktop Processor i7-7700k 4 Cores/8 Threads but I still have to wait and see for the benchmarks as well.

Now assuming that the 8 Cores/ 16 Threads will be a much better option since it will have more cores and threads making CPU usage a little less demanding in Battlefield 1 and future games and especially DX 12 that takes advantage of more cores comes with the question of "Can I use my newly bought Zotac AMP Edition GTX 1060 6gb with the AM4 motherboard that I assume only AMD CPU's can be put in.

I know very well that the AM4 and Zen processors are still 2-3 months away from being released but I wanted to know if I can use my new GTX 1060 6gb with the upcoming AM4 Mobo.

Current Rig:

i5-4670
GTX 1060 6gb
1x8gb ddr3 ram

Might be a ram issue. I thought I read in another thread that BF1 (God I hate this redo of everything, what was wrong with calling it BF5?) can use 10GBs of ram? If you only have a single 8GB stick you might just need more ram to keep your CPU fed, so it can keep your GPU fed.

Might just be a new game that needs a lot of patching as well. If all the other games you play are fine you might want to wait for the patches to make the game playable.
The Mobo's that support both CPU's (AMD and Intel) will have the the PCI-e slot on it to support any PCI-e GPU (which is pretty much any that you can get a hold of). So to sum it up, your GPU will easily move over to your new build without any issues, as long as it comes with a PCI-e slot on the Mobo, which those 2 CPU's will have Mobo's that support the GPU.

Thank you for that answer! That's a relief to hear!

Personally I would think that your i5-4670 would be plenty good for gaming with your GTX 1060. Are you having issues playing BF1 with your setup?

Also having more cores (>4 of them) isn't always mean a better gaming experience. Generally if you have a game that can take advantage of 4 physical cores (game written/coded for 4 or more CPU cores), you will usually won't have too much of an issue playing that game. Most DirectX 11 games are generally run well on at least 2 fast CPU cores. The DirectX 12 coded games and Vulcan coded games, tend to offer a bit better experience with at least 4 cores (assuming the CPU cores are efficient enough to handle the game).
Also Intel CPU's right now (and for the past 10 years or so) have been a bit better and more efficient with most tasks over AMD CPU's, including gaming. It will be interesting to see where AMD's Zen CPU's perform, but I am cautiously optimistic at what they will do compared to Intel's options. I would like to see AMD be competitive again, but for me it is a wait and see.

Interesting post there. Here is the most interesting post on that thread linked above:
"no, this is a memory leak problem that should be fixed with better coding. there is something happening at the end of a round and while loading the next round that messes up memory management, perhaps it's not unloading all the resources correctly

it is even difficult to get the game to quit to desktop, it just hangs there and goes non-responsive"

So if that is the case, then the memory issues should hopefully get fixed, but maybe you would need more RAM, because you CPU should be fine otherwise.

The CPU usage is always at 100% on the 4 cores, I use MSI afterburner and the GTX 1060 6gb only gets to 30-60% CPU usage and I also experience a lot of stutters and screen tearing.

I see so I just need more ram, thanks for the info but I think it would be better for me to get the new 7700k or Zen if they perform relatively well, thanks for the help! :D

It is cheap to get 8 gb's of more RAM and see how it improves your gaming experience in BF1. I would buy 8 gb's of RAM and drop it into your motherboard and I'm betting that you will have a much better experience in BF1, but it is up to you. Your i5 4670 CPU is a good CPU and should do just fine with just about any game that you throw at it.

Okay, thank you again!
