I am starting my new build which I will be using for gaming and VR. I have the mobo - ASUS Rog Strix x99 gaming mobo, socket LGA-2011v3, and want to order the CPU within the next few days. Ideally I would like to spend less than $600 on the CPU and need advice as to which one to buy. Should I go Broadwell or Haswell? Is the I7-6800 better than the I7-5820? Should I just bite the bullet and go for the i7-6850? I do plan on O/C, not much, but certainly more than out of the box. Thanks in advance for replies.

The 6850K by far is better. It has 10 percent faster overall speeds along with 40 PCIe lanes vs only 28.

i7 6800k is a nice option for 2011-3.
You need to buy an aftermarket cooler too since i7 6800k does not come with any fan.
