Hi, I'm at a decision whether I should get a VGA to DVI or DP for hooking up my second monitor to my GPU (GTX Nvidia 780). I was reading somewhere along the lines that if I use a DVI, I won't get audio from my monitor? But I'm not sure if I would get audio or not because my monitor (AOC I2267FW) has built in speakers.

Also I plan on using another VGA cable to make up the length of distance between the two monitors with either a VGA to DVI or DP. Which one should I get?

Solution

VGA can't pass audio. If your monitor has speakers it also has a 3.5mm jack that you would use for sound.

I don't think you want a VGA to DP or DVI adapter. You want a DP or DVI to VGA adapter.

I would suggest using a DVI to VGA adapter as there is no real conversion, its just a pin alteration.

If you're running 1080p over VGA you may encounter problems if you extend it too far, analog signals degrade the farther they are sent.

Theres a difference between vga to dvi and dvi to vga? Or just cable length?
