Hello,
I was just curious, if you have low system ram will this cause your video card to crash? I have a problem with my video card crashing, but I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and only have 4gb ram, which is low and plan to upgrade once I get the funds. But can low system ram cause this issue? The video card has 2 gb dedicated to it. If you need more infomation don't hesitate to ask and thanks in advance!

Solution
try to uninstall the Nvidia's driver completely(I don't remember but there's an app specifically for that) and install the latest driver.

Give more details.

When does the video card crash?gaming, browsing etc.

4gb ram is still ok depending on what your doing, I myself just use 4gb for my current setup(check my signature) playing GTA 5,ROTR and Shadow of Mordor. But I'm sure I'll see some fps boost when I get another 4gb stick.

Did you have the latest driver for your gpu?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. So it crashes at random times, sometimes in games and sometimes when doing multiple tasks such as having an open browser and running photoshop at the same time. I have installed the lastest drivers and reinstalled them after an uninstall to see if that fixed the problem, but no go so far.

and what kind of crash is this?I experienced a GPU crash from my old and first card(gt 610 haha crappy) while gaming and it crashed with a buzzing sound from my speaker continuously unless I pull the systems power chord.

And I forgot to asked, whats your GPU model?

The GPU is nVidia Geforce GT 730 2gb and 64 bit...not super high end, but the games aren't super high end either, such as like the Sims 3. It just turns off and the screen goes black for a second and it pops up with the error message that the card crashed and has recovered.

I have actually done that, I can't remember the name of the program, but I did that exact thing and it's still crashing. Could it be that the mobo isn't supplying enough power perhaps? It has a 500 watt psu so that in itself shouldn't be a problem, but power is supplied off the mobo not through the psu as there is no connector.

Its only a 730 though it only really draws power from the pci-e slot no need for 6 pin from the PSU.

3 things I think that could be causing the problem.

1.GPU
2.the pci-e slot
3.PSU

I was gonna suggest to reinstall your OS but thats too much work.Oh why not try using the mobo/on board display for a while and see if it will crash or encounter any problem. So you can pinpoint whats the problem.

Hmm well I have used the on board display before without a problem, just wanted something better. I have taken it out and made sure it's seated correctly and I really hope it's not the PCIe slot because it only has one....this is a Dell Optiplex 780 by the way. Someone before suggested I try it in my own rig and see if it still crashes, but that's also a lot of work and I was waiting for the weekend to do that. What do you think is wrong with the PSU then? I also really hope it's not a bunk card....

Holy sh** thats my previous system haha(the mid tower one) I have 2 of them but the PCI-e slot on one of the mobo suddenly wont recognize any of my GPU's(GT 610 and a GTX 750) so I replaced it with the spare mobo from the other one and works for some time(2 months maybe) and it just wont turn on with the blinking led or number 1 and 3.Well I got this system from my dads company must be replacing them.

Sorry for the long story I really just did struggle because of that system haha.

So did you try the mobo display?Try it for a half an hour or an hour if it works well it must be really the GPU crashing and hopefully not the slot.

haha that's funny, this one is a mid tower as well and I added some extra fans to it to help cool it down better along with a bigger heat sink for the cpu. Anyway, I have not tried the on board display yet, but I can do that tonight and will get back to you about it! Do I just remove the graphics card then for that? Or do I need to uninstall all the drivers and such? I too feel like I'm stuggling with this system haha

Strange thing, it's been two days now without it crashing...I have no idea what happened, I didn't change anything or take anything out. Haven't been trying to run two things at once though, so maybe it is a memory problem...
