Is the i7 4790k compatible with h97

I have the h97 anniversay mobo and was wondering if this cpu is compatible with this motherboard. I don't want to pay extra to get more hardware, but I want a new cpu. Would this be compatible and is it the best upgrade? I currently have the i5 4600

otherwise if the 4790K is not ''that much'' more expensive it's still a better CPU as it's clocked to 4.0ghz and 4.4ghz boost out of the box...there is no real need for overclocking it as it's clockspeed from intel are already pretty agressive to begin with...so...

or a xeon E3-1231V3 which is pretty much the same as the 4790 but with no integrated graphics...usually they are cheaper, more energy efficient and perform about the same.

Oh thanks for pointing that out. I actually have that cpu and it is indeed a great alternative. Just slipped my mind.
