Hello all!
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a relatively cheap upgrade for the A10 5800k.
Currently I have the A10 paired with a GTX 960. It's worked really well, but I struggle to stream most games at 720p/30fps while staying above 60fps in game. (Don't get me started on how poorly tf2 performs...)

I'm pretty sure I'll have to upgrade my mobo as well, and staying with AMD would make it a lot cheaper of an upgrade.. However I'm not sure if this is the right move to make if there's a cheap Intel alternative.

Would going with an FX8350 be too small of an upgrade to notice a difference? Should I wait for Zen? Should I go the Intel route? Is it possible to stick around the ~$300 range for a noticeable upgrade in performance?

Thanks for any help!

It is just an FX8xxx with a known good die and heavily clocked by default. You can get similar results on an FX8300 that you manually overclock for about half the price. This is a big step-up from what you have, but still not really worth the money unless you are deadset on staying with AMD, but still getting an upgrade now instead of waiting for Zen.
There is basically no upgrade you can make that is worthwhile and keep the same mothebraord. Going to an X4 860k is the best you can do and that will not be much of a difference over your 5800k.

The fx line is dead and has not seen an upgarde since 2012. At this point buying fresh into that platform is just throwing away more good money.

If you can hold off I would wait until Zen comes out and make a more educated decision then on whether to go Zen or Intel because at this point you are going to need new CPU, new motherboard, and a full reinstall of windows no matter what.

Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation... I'll wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals in Canada to see if there's any way I could snag lower prices on that... and for the announcement on prices for Zen.
And never knew that about Windows, but it won't be too big of a problem!

Thanks for the advice... Yeah I knew I was going to have to upgrade the mobo as well if I wanted a noticeable difference.
And yeah, that's a better idea than going with old tech. So is the FX 9590 just a waste of money? (I don't think I'd go with it anyways)
