Hello. I want to buy an i3 6100 but it has only 16 pci lanes. I want to future upgrade to an i7 with overclock but 6700k is just 16 lanes too. Is there some good CPU socket 1151 with 24 or 32 pcie lanes. Budget - 350$ - need ship to portugal(try on amazon). My wifi card will be pci to don't limit the
performance of my r9 380x.

Solution

The PCIe lanes for your GPU (16 of them) go straight to the processor, any of the other slots use PCIe lanes from the system bus. For example a Z170 board has 20 additional PCIe lanes. You would use that for your Wifi Card, M.2 drive, etc.

If you plan to get a 6700k, you should buy a Z170 board at this point.
The processor itself is limited to that many pcie lanes. If you want more then you have to go to socket 2011. Why do you need more than that? Your wifi card in a 1x lane will be fine with your 380x in a 16x slot. The 380x can't even saturate PCIE 3.0 8x, there's nothing to worry about

Thanks but i prefer to use pci for some random cards. Next year pci stuff will stop being sold so that products will end. motherboard has pci. Why not use that ports. The build i wanted to do a month ago was am3+(pcie 2.0). I think i will lost 1 fps but when i saw the bandwidth the value was 170gb/sec and i think i can lost more performance

AMD is a waste to use anyway at this point for a new build, using Intel is a wise choice until AMD's new processors come out next year and we confirm their performance.

No that board has a B150 chipset. You need a board with Z170 in the name.

Does that chip adds new pcie lanes?

Different chipsets have more or less PCIe lanes and allocate them differently to different devices. For a Skylake processor like you want Z170 has the most additional PCIe lanes (20) also because you said you are getting a i7-6700k eventually the Z170 board will allow you to overclock it. The other boards will not allow that.

How many dollars dos an z170 motherboard costs? Start with a low end motherboard and switch motherboard is almost mount a new pc.

There are many just under $100. As I said if your plan is to use a 6700k this should be your only choice, anything else is a waste of money.

If you're budget limited then you're budget limited. I'm just suggesting based upon your future plans whats most cost effective.

A 6700k with a B150 motherboard is a waste of money. And if you're concerned about PCIe lanes the B150 only has 8 on board, while the Z170 has 20.

Either way your GPU used the CPU's 16 lanes, but the limited number of system lanes limits the things you can add. Thats up to you.

That means that i will have 24lanes? 16 to my gpu, and more for other stuff like pcie to usb and maybe a sound card. The unique thing i cant do is crossfire and sli but im not planning to do that. Is there some trick to overclock i7 6700k in a b150 motherboard? There are ways to oc CPUs without the k but maybe is possible oc this i7 6700k without b150a.
