I often read Tomshardware posts seeking build advice. I plan on building my next mid-size and hope that you can help with compatible components.
I am a graphic artist (Adobe Illustrator, Krita, Inkscape, Corel Draw Graphics Suite, etc.). I am also a 2D (TVPaint) and 3D (Blender) animator who does video editing and audio work for my animations (Newtek products and Audacity).
I have always had my computer workstations custom built for me, but I'm building this next one myself.
My prior builds have always been ahead of the curve, so their technology and components stood the test of time; I've had workstations for eight years that are still faster than most with monster hard drives.
I would like to build this system with the same longevity in mind. I like cutting edge, not because it's cutting edge, but because it's the next thing so it doesn't quickly become obsolete.
I will be installing Win 7 Pro again because I like it. I have no interest in Win 10.
I don't keep up with the latest components (GPU's, CPU'S, motherboards, and the likes) out there. And I suspect it would take me months to get up to speed before choosing the proper, compatible components for this system, although I am aware of PCpartpicker.com. So, I'm coming to you who already have established that knowledge base hoping you can assist me in my quest.
What do I need here, so I can start buying and building? (I'm not giving you a $$ ceiling because that'll depend on the system and its merits.)
