Its not a great idea, most of the time the risk is associated with your HDD or other data devices. In cutting power without letting the drive shut down properly you risk damage or loss of data.

Sometimes there are situations when you have to throw the rocker switch, really its the same thing as if the power goes out.
Its not recommended.

Ok, I understand now. I just recently did it because it was taking a unusual amount of time to restart my computer after a program got stuck and it wouldn't let me force quit the program. I'll make sure to give it some more time next time this happens. Thank you for the response.
