I have an AMD FX 8300 eight core 3.30 GHz processor, but my last heatsink cooling fan is buzzing (was told it's slightly unbalanced) so I ordered another heatsink/cooling fan. Turns out the new one I ordered is as loud as a jet engine. So I need help picking out a more quieter fan. I don't know much about the what fan speed it should be to be very quiet so I'm hoping the community could help. Thanks!

Solution
It has a front to rear airflow (ram to back of case) as opposed to just blowing down into the heatsink itself.

Whether your exhaust are above the heatsink nor to the rear it doesn't really matter.
It'll still do a good job.
Compared to the stock amd heatsink temps will be around 15c better generally , noise ?? Much much much quieter.

That's a freekin huge heatsink. Thanks for the suggestion but I want something....... smaller but how do I know if what I'm going to buy is quiet? Is there a way I can compare other fans with each other?

What's your motherboard model ??

It has a direct bearing on cooler recommendation

& generally you want a cooler with a 120mm fan if at all possible, the bigger the fan , the slower it spins, the less noise it makes.

Also what country are you ??

This is a very late reply, but I like this heatsink but how do I know if it's good for the case I have? It seems it's pointing towards the front of the case, so will it have a slight different airflow or what? My fans shoot out heat through the top of the case btw but I just wanna make sure it's not gonna change the temperatures a bit.

I know you dont want huge but keep in mind that bigger often means quieter when it come to air coolers. Mainly because a small heatsink and fan have to work much harder to dissipate heat. I was actually gonna recommend the R1 Universal but that even bigger than the h5. Basically if you are willing to go with 140mm fan they will all be big and most of them fairly quiet. If you must go Smaller I like this with 120mm fans and performs really well and its quiet. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709018
Always the old faithful Cooler master hyper 212 evo also. But the 212 is a bit louder and doesnt quite match the performance of Phanteks I linked.

I got the fan in today and installed it. It kind of scared me a little since I thought it was going to install like an ordinary stock heatsink but that wasn't the case. I had to force it onto the brackets which is what scared me since I didn't know how much pressure I had to apply or was too much, but in the end I finally got it and I no longer hear my old jet engine. Thanks!
