I have a I7-2600k cpu on a MSI Z68G43A-G3 motherboard. The mobo has 2 x16 slots a 3.0 and a 2.0, the mobo will only run the 3.0 slot at 3.0 speeds if you have a 3rd gen I-core cpu. I have tried to upgrade from my AMD HD6850 video card to a MSI AMD RX 480 and it does not post on bootup. It just sits there blacked out i have tried 2 different msi AMD cards. The original powercolor amd 6850 is 2.0x16 and it still works just fine, Also i have more than enough power as i have a 1,000 watt PSU and the proper dedicated power supply cords. I am confused at the moment as to what i should do.

Current build
MSI Z68G43-G3 motherboard
Intel I7-2600K CPU
32gb ram
1,000 watt rosewill PSU

Solution
Z68 chipset was introduced May 11, 2011.

For several years some video card manufacturers offered Legacy BIOS and UEFI DUAL BIOS video cards controlled via a simple switch. The latest RX series cards seem to have discontinued use of the LEGACY VIDEO CARD BIOS.

Your video card doesn't have the switch to change UEFI to Legacy BIOS. Unfortunately, your motherboard needs the older Legacy BIOS video card.

For motherboard as old as yours, be sure your video card specs read:
BIOS Support:
Legacy BIOS
UEFI BIOS

For example, read specs on this card:
SAPPHIRE Tri-X Radeon R9 390X 8G D5

Sorry for the long response back but i have been moving houses. Thanks you for the input i appreciate it, Also is it just Sapphire that offers legacy bios support on the R9 390X or is it all manufacturers. Im gonna guess all since AMD makes the chipset while the other manufacturers the card and other parts.

Do you know of an Nvidia cards that would work on a Z68?
