Hi TH ppl, got a bit of a fun question today. So a friend of mine brought his Sapphire r9 270x today, said it just stoped working. First of all i hooked it up to my pc, it starts, fans spinning, posts windows logo and than just a dark screen.Tried HDMI and DVI cable, same results. It has enough power (my native card is r9 280), so i know thar the PSU is not the issue. Then i thought amd gets hot a lot, so opened the card, changed the paste, still the same. Dismantled the card again, used a unimer device to measure some of it's components and the ones i checked are emitting fine. Measured the power input elements, all good. My gues is that either the gpu chipset stoped working, or some resistor or element that sends the signal to the video output unit. Now, the question is, can i somehow check if the chipset is dead? And if all fails I'll have some fun checking if it's a soldering problem, by pulling a Linus on the card :) freshly baked AMD components anyone? :) all jokes aside, hope you guys have some fun answers or guides.
Alex.

"First of all i hooked it up to my pc, it starts, fans spinning, posts windows logo and than just a dark screen.Tried HDMI and DVI cable, same results"....

could be os/driver/software issue due to when it goes dark.

can he start in safe mode?
