I have had the R9 390 for a year now and I feel like it is already lacking on the performance front compared to benchmarks of the 1080 GTX

is it really worth the upgrade and to be future proof compared to the R9 390 especially with AMD announcing there new range next year.

I want to be able to play games at full settings in either 1080 or 4K and also what is turning me is the HDMI 2.0b port which AMD lack.

I have been an AMD fan for a while now and my last nvidia card was 9700GT so i am not to clued up with NVIDIA tech even with searching online for benchmarks, watching reviews and still cant make my mind up!

Lastly if i decide to go for the 1080 what bloody version do i go for from what company!!! there are so many zotac, geforce, msi .... thats another part i can't make my mind up on lol, hopefully someone can help!

thanks in advance people.

The GTX 1080 is the best card on the market, with the exception of Nvidia's Titain X Pascal. Praticaly everything about is superior, except for its premium pirce tag. It's also a champion overclocker.
Considering your "making a comeback" to Nvidia, I'd reccomend goin with an EVGA card for their incredible custumer support.

Thi is the hybrid card, its GPU is watercooled on a 120mm radiator and the VRAM and voltasge regualtors are cooler with a blower fan. This allows for better overclocking. However, it is alos one of the procerier models at $730...

You won't need to upgrade for another year or two unless you have D3D12 games you want to play. I would then recommend an upgrade to ensure you have a GPU designed for it in your setup. If you upgrade, I recommend the ASUS STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING.

For $50 less, here is the FTW ACX 3.0 card. It has less of a factory OC and less potentail due to its leck of the watercooling. Its not as good, but by no means bad.

If tose are a bit too pricy for you, you can try this ASUS card. It has a supeior cooler the EVGA's cheaper card and looking at the picture seems to have a larger heatsink, which means better cooling (not better then the Hybrid though) and it lights up in a lot of colers to match what you've got, or you can just turn them off. The downside is that nobodys customer support rivails EVGA, and it lacks the watercooling.
