What game, what settings? You have a slower CPU and the 740 is a low end gaming card. Unless you are playing at 720 resolution you won't get good results in any new game, and even then you may need to be on low settings in quite a few games to get to past 20-30 fps.
Specs show you need to connect one 6 pin PCI-e cable from your power supply to your GT 740. Some power supplies have this connector, some power supplies don't. That "pce to 6pin connector" is probably there in case your power supply doesn't already have the 6 pin connector.

The 740 is a budget gaming card, it is not meant for high framerate at high resolution and high settings. My suggestion is to set resolution to 720p. Lower settings to at most Medium. Turn off any form of AA(anti aliasing).

An extra 4gb ram may help in some games, like GTA V, but the problem is your videocard will still limit framerate. Things may run with less stutter, but your average framerate will be the same. Basically, games that need more than 4gb of system ram also need more than a GT 740.
