Hello,

I'm kinda of a newbie to networking, and my boss want me to find a way we can deny a PC/Laptop sharing internet over an ethernet cord.

Is there a way you could do that being the network admin?

A friend of mine told me it was possible, though he don't know how to achieve it.
How can you detect a when a PC/Laptop is sharing internet over an ethernet cord?

PS. Sorry for my english.

Log into the router, find a list of connected devices, it will list a MAC address next to each device.
Copy the MAC address and go over to your security settings and deny access to that MAC.

It is impossible to give detailed step by step instructions without knowing how your system is set up and what router and firewall you have.

Just don't want him to tether via ethernet or WIFI, is that possible?

That isn't how tethering works. Tethering gives a PC internet by tethering to a phone or other device. Connecting to Ethernet and tethering doesn't make sense.

Can you clearly describe the exact situation you are trying to prevent?

I need to prevent workers to share internet to other laptops or pc's via ethernet of wifi from my Lan.

For example, I connect my work lap to the lan via Wi-Fi, and I want to give internet to my personal laptop via ethernet from laptop to laptop.

Can I detect if someone is doing that and prevent that?

I hope I make myself clear this time.
Thank you both for your time.

Ah. You need to prevent bridging connections.

Yes. You can do this, but you will need to do it while the culprit is active. On your list of connected devices on your router the personal PCs will be listed, you need to block their MAC addresses in your router.

Am not that deep into this but I notice if you run an enterprise model Microsoft Network, the admin has tons of control over what the clients can do. From unable to change wallpaper to no Internet access whatsoever. Are u ready to contract out to a Microsoft Certified Engineer$$$? :)
