PC wont' boot from USB stick unless I remove SSD

A few hours ago my SSD died on me, all of a sudden.

I think I have a copy of the system from half a year ago on another SSD, which I now try to boot into.
I got an MBR Error 1 during boot and now I try to boot from a bootable windows 10 usb stick, to run repair and fix MBR error.

But it does not work for some reason. I tried F12 - Boot from USB FFD, USB HDD, etc. I tried setting the boot order in bios. It just keeps trying to boot from SSD, not USB.

Unless I physically pull the SATA cable out of SSD, restart - then it boots into USB...

So, the problem right now is to boot from USB flash drive without removing the SSD, to fix this SSD from the recovery tool on win10 usb stick...

I'm frustrated. Any ideas?
Thanks

Welcome, @Nixel!

I'd recommend you try resolving the settings issue by resetting BIOS, it will get them back to their factory defaults and help you re-configure any manual changes want to make afterwards.
Another thing you should try is using a different SATA cable with the SSD and try plugging it in another SATA port on the motherboard to see if the issue will persist. What is your mobo model? Is it just Legacy or UEFI-based one as well? If you do have UEFI BIOS, try swapping between the Legacy mode and UEFI mode and see if either one would help you boot into the Recovery disk while the SSD is connected.

Hope this works. Let us know how it goes. :)
