Hi, I have been having problems with my new ASUS GTX 950 mini I just bought. I feel as if I am not getting the essential frames that I should be getting when I am gaming. I came from a GTX 745 and upgraded to my new GTX 950. Which is a significant upgrade, although when I am gaming it feels like a huge downgrade. I used to get anywhere from 50-70 frames on my gtx 745 on low and on the same settings my GTX 950 constanly drop down to 10 frames or less. I have done everything I know about graphics cards to resolve the issue such as uninstalling/installing drivers, updating bios, checking temperature of GPU and the problem still persists. I fear that the problem is probably a hardware related issue and I have wasted my money. Any response is appreciated.
Thanks

I'm sorry I have the i5, I have run a full scan and found no viruses, I used ddu to unintall old drivers and reinstalled current ones.

well this being a "prebuilt" mainstream company PC, I would ask... which Power Supply do you have? Is it possible that your GPU is just starving for power?

your GTX 745.. quick search reveals a spec of 55watts requirement. But, the 950 requires around 160watts. That's a big difference. If you have a low end PSU installed which is just to support that 745.. you may just have power issues. Would you be able to open up the side panel and see how many watts your PSU is rated for? as well as the AMP rating on the 12v+ rail?

Another note man... the gtx950... good stuff.. but 1050 is out.. priced about the same... if possible, swap it out ;) even if it costs return shipping or what not, it's quite worth it

I have the 240 watt psu adapter, the reason I bought the mini gtx 950 is because the power consumption is up to 75W, and requires no PCIe power. GTX 1050 would not work because of power requirements. I am not sure what the AMP rating is or what a 12v rail is so idk.

oh.. i have no idea wtf i was looking at before... lol. Searched 950 mini on newegg.. got 160watt ( i did think it sounded high but w/e lol)

did you try disable V sync?

i personally would upgrade the PSU... i know it's not really necessary... (nothing to do with anything, just talking)

The first thing I would do after installation and installing the drivers is verify everything is working properly. In Device manager, your display adapter setting shows your new card with no issues? If so, then I'd run a non game benchmark like Firestrike. This allows you to compare your score with others who have a similar set up. If everything looks okay, then test a game. This process is so that you aren't mistaking an issue with a game for an issue with your videocard installation.

To cut to the chase though, I think it's your power supply. Sure the 950 is a 75W card, but the problem is that PSU was selected as the minimum needed for a 55W card. That's a typical issue with pre-built computers, to keep the price down they skimp on some components.

I just dont understand why a 75W card, cant run on a 240 psu, I thought I did the research before to make sure it would work fine, but I guess i'm unlucky.

basically your old GPU was low demand on the PSU. Now you've got a GPU that even though in same Wattage range, demands more from the PSU. That's a slightly higher wattage requirement and likely a higher AMP requirement. That PSU may not be up to the job for more output. Like "dontlistentome" and I said, prebuilt system are have cheaper parts, especially PSUs
