Hi,
As part of my new build i am going to buy 1 TB Seagate Hard disk. Even partitions are personal preferences, I read some forums and articles that we need to follow some practices for best performance. I am going to install windows 10 as OS.

I am planning to create partitions based on the following criteria

  • Primary partition has minimum 100 GB to max 200 GB
OS partition includes the space for other software installations also
Separate partitions for easy separations of my data

So based on above, I am planning my hard disk partition like below;

Total 6 partitions

C Drive (200GB) - OS, Programs, virtual machines etc
    D Drive (200GB) - Games installations
E Drive (200GB) - Personal Files (my study materials, documents, files etc)
F Drive (200GB) - Songs, Software Sources, Games Sources etc
    G Drive (200GB) - Movies, Downloads etc

My confusion are the following

1. I am having 250GB SSD. So any change on this. I din't used any SSD until now.
2. Games install in C or D. If i install in D, also it takes some spaces in C for installation.

Please advise

You can install games on whatever drive you want.

For instance:
In the steam client:
Steam
Settings
Downloads
Steam Library Folders
Add library folder

sorry. i din't get. You mean SSD as primary partition (C drive). wow!!! then this is for installing all applications including games
correct?

No need to partition HDD for this. So HDD can be used for any storage purpose

Hi there Akhilrajau,

I would agree with USAFRet.

Yeah, you OS should be on the SSD, let's say drive C:. You will get really good boot and loading times. SSDs are considerably faster than mechanical drivers. Also, you can install your heaviest applications and games over there.

This does not really mean that you can't install programs and games on your HDD. They would just load slower. Every game/app installation process would ask you for destination. You can just choose your HDD (let's say D: ).

Cheers,

Thanks friend. i got that. i also like the approach. What about partitioning SSD like 100 GB and 150 GB. Still space waster for partitioning like HDD
