Hello all,

I have an Alienware X51 desktop and earlier this year this weird problem started happening. There are two different problems that occur and completely randomly.

1.) Computer freezes (usually during a video or a stream being played, sometimes even just spotify) and it creates this awful buzzing sound from the speakers and the only way to stop it is I have to shut down the desktop using the power button

2.) The second problem is that RANDOMLY the computer will shut off on its own and attempt to restart. I say attempt because you can hear the fan trying to start up and the lights on the tower are turning on and usually this goes on for about a full minute of constant lights/fan turning on then turning off and eventually it starts the computer up.

About 6 months ago when it first started happening, I was getting ready to replace the hard drive to a solid state. When I did so the problem stopped for a few months up until this month when it started again. Furthermore, this week I changed the thermal paste on the CPU and cleaned the computer out with compressed air because I wanted to eliminate the factor of the computer possibly overheating. However, the problem still continues to happen.

Recently I installed speccy on my computer so I can somewhat monitor the temperatures and to me they seem kind of high but i'm not sure what to do about it seeing that Alienware X51 is a small compact tower.

Here are the computer specifications:

Windows 10 OS 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz
Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
Alienware 0PGRP5 (SOCKET 0)
Graphics
BenQ XL2411Z (1920x1080@144Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (Dell)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 Ti OEM (NVIDIA)
ForceWare version: 365.19
SLI Disabled
Storage
232GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (SSD)
Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

The temperatures on the CPU will range from 45 to 65 C
The temperatures on the Motherboard will range from 55 to 65 C

Thank you guys in advance for any help!

Stefan

Solution
im not so sure, with a stutter like that i would see a failing gpu, or more likely a bad gpu driver. see if you can wipe your current gpu driver then install a known good version.
