Unknown Hard Drive Problem

Hi everyone.
I recently acquired two Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB HDDs; however they are not in working condition. Is it possible for me to even try to repair them? Since I don't know the symptoms, how wise would it be for me to plug it into my computer alongside my existing Hard Drive?

personally I have a "test pc I use for such things, so I would just slap it on there one driver at a time and try to boot, (or boot from Linux on usb stick and run tests on the drives, kill partitions if any, then reformat them and try to see what I will use them for, (boot drive or storage drive)

green drives are basic desktop drives you could attached it as secondary drive on your pc, if recognized you could check the smart status on it. and see. but personally I don't like to put foreign drives (ie possibly infected with virus or worm or worst) to my main computer. but I am just an old paranoid fart.
