Installing a CPU with higher FSB

Hey guys, and I know that the socket 775 is old, but I am trying to keep this thing going for as long as possible, the motherboard itself is 6 years old and still runs strong. I have been using the Pentium E5700 since the beginning, and I feel that it's time to upgrade it to the E8400 (which is already making its way). This current CPU has a 800mhz Front Side Bus, and the CPU I am getting soon is 1333mhz FSB, which is the maximum supported by the north bridge. Is there going to be a difference between 800mhz and 1333mhz?

Also, can someone please enlighten me with FSB and its importance? I still do not understand.

FSB dictates the speed of the interconnect buses between CPU and northbridge. You will get a small power use...

FSB dictates the speed of the interconnect buses between CPU and northbridge. You will get a small power use reduction from the increase in rate of power state changes and will have increased bandwidth from CPU to the rest of the system and memory. This will mean you can run more powerful GPUs and faster RAM before the interconnect becomes a bottleneck. However on a 775 system, your CPU still be a greatly limiting factor on the majority of tasks.

I am curious as to why you did not attempt to get a Q6600 or the like. They are cheap as anything now and you would see a much bigger increase in performance from the additional cores. Ghz does not mean a great deal these days.

I know, I was actually thinking of getting the quad core, but then I was questioning one thing: compatibility. I found out that the north and south bridge supports quads on my mobo, but there were other things like such as BIOS version and VRM power delivery, I was worried I would have wasted $40 (may not sound much, but I don't waste money) for a CPU that won't run with the right multipliers. FYI, my motherboard is G41T-AD. Also, thank you very much for giving me a short answer about FSB. Finally my RAM won't run in 800mhz anymore :S

If you have a compatible CPU already, there should be no issue BIOS updating. Just update with the old CPU installed.
