New memory coming... what do I do with the old memory?

I currently have an ASRock z77 Extreme4 motherboard. In it I have a dual channel 2x4 crucial ballistix 9-9-9-24 ddr3 1600 ram.

I'm adding some Kingston HyperX Fury 2x8 16GB DDR3 1600 with cas latency of 10.

I've read different opinions on RAM that isn't identical. I expect to remove the existing RAM, but is that a myth or is that accurate?

Solution
I'd take out the old ram and just use the new.

Keep hold of the old though as you can use it if there are any issues with the new ones.

Maybe a month down the line, if all is good, sell the old on ebay and get some of your money back toward your next upgrade?

Different ram can cause issues if mixed, also the different clocks can cause issues.

Sometimes it will work but will slow down the faster ram to work at speeds with the slower if that makes sense.
