wrong size unallocated

Hard drive lost partition now shows as 1 terabyte drive of unallocated but it is only a 17gb drive. None of the disk tools can do anything with it.

Have you tried TestDisk? It can usually fix this problems in seconds, as long as the problem is not a physically damaged drive. It's not very intuitive, but there are guides online on how to make it locate your partition and then rewrite its structure so you can access your files again.

Yes I have tried testdisk and it did not change anything on it. I am running photorec now but it says it will be 344 hoours until completion. It has found over 50000 files so far but I am not getting anything much. The files are either screwed up or don't open correctly so I am having little hope of recovering these files. Thanks for your answer.
