I have been experiencing an issue with my PC locking up when playing high system requirement games; I play for a certain amount of time (varies between 1 hour to 3 hours after game launch) and my PC freezes on a static image of a frame from the game I am playing. The temperature of the GPU is maximum 74 degrees Celsius, and the temperature of the CPU is around 54 degrees Celsius. I have ran memtest to no avail (no problems with RAM), tested HDD and SSD health, again no problems, and tried installing the latest GPU drivers, again, no change. On one occasion, the recent game sound looped for 3 seconds after the initial freeze, however this has only happened once of the tens of times that this has occurred.

Pc Specs
GPU: 1 x Zotac GTX 980ti
CPC: Intel Core-i7 6700k
Ram: 16gb DDR4
Cpu cooler: Coolermaster Hyper Evo 212
Motherboard: gigabyte 7170XP-SLI-CF
Power Supply: Corsair RM Series™ RM850 850 watt
Case Fans: 1 intake and 1 outtake
Storage: 1 x Hyperx Savage 120gb SSD + 1 x WD Caviar black 2tb HDD
Peripherals: 1 x old PS/2 connected keyboard
1 x Logitech g430 headset
1 x Logitech g402 mouse
Monitor : Benq XL2411Z

Thank you in advance, any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Solution
Fixed. Turned target max temperature down to 70 degrees in MSI afterburner, and all was fixed. I don't know how i didn't foresee that it was a matter of overheating.
