Secure network shown as open

I have a strange issue with my wlan from an asus RT-A56U router. I use WPA2 security and I can access my network using my PW on my devices.
But when I have some guests and want to give them access to my network it is shown as open on there devices, but they cannot connect to it even when I give them the PW. What is going on?

2 things immediately come to mind:

1. Are you hiding your SSID? If so, stop doing this, it isn't an effective security method and will cause problems with any device that strictly follows the 802.11 RFC's

2. Are you certain that your guest's devices suppport WPA2?

Thanks for your reply but it was not #1. For #2 how do I know that? It is quite new phones that Ive tried on. At least one is less than a year old.
