Using memories with different frequencies. Urgent matter.

Hello.

I have a pair of Coirsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHZ, (CMZ16GGX3M2A) installed on my Z97X-SLI Gigabye motherboard, and bought by mistake a pair of the Coirsair DDR3 Vengeance 1866 Mhz (CMY16GX3M2A 1866C9R).

Is it a problem to put these different pairs of memories together in this motherboard? If so, do I need to change anything on its BIOS?

Finally, I''m intending to change my motherboard to a Asus Siber Tooth Z97 Mark S. Is it also compatible to put both pairs in this motherboard (and if so what changes do I need to make on it)?

Sorry to say this, but the answer is maybe. The intent of DDR, and DDR3, was that compliant memory could work together, although at best at the lowest speed in the mix and the loosest settings in the mix. In practive, DDR3 is so fussy that people almost always buy matched sets of 2 or 4 that have been tested together. Two or four separately purchased sticks of the same exact make and model has been known not to work, or at least not until BIOS fiddling has loosened the settings and raised the voltage.

So the answer is maybe. If'n that were me, I'd simply try them. The machine on which I am typing has four sticks, two matched sets of two with slightly different specs. And it runs.
