I'm about to buy a GTX 1070 and can't decide what model/brand to go with for this generation.

The two that I have narrowed it down to is the

EVGA FTW GTX 1070 After price match I can get it for $588

and the

MSI GAMING X GTX 1070 After price match I can get it for $571

(I also love the color red so I love how the MSI looks)

I would like it to be quiet and have a good cooler, good overclocking (It will be my first time OC a graphics card). I read that the MSI does have a much better cooler than the EVGA card. I know EVGA is known for their good customer service but apparently the RMA process in Canada is about the same as MSI/Gigabytes. The MSI is a bit cheaper right now and I will be price matching with MemoryExpress so they will take and additional 10% off.

- It will be used on a 1440p 144hz Gsync monitor if that matters.

I also would like to know if EVGA's entire issue about the 1070 overheating problems is it being blown out of proportions or is it actually a design flaw and should I just stay away from them for this generation?

Let me know which one you recommend.

i can say that there is not a "best" 1070 model. they all get the same fps in game and other than Fe cards, they all run cool. the best one is the one that looks good to you and is priced right. here is a list of models with reviews for many of them linked. i have read all the reviews and many more and can that not a single card was faster than the others. you'll get the same fps out of an evga sc card as you will with the ftw one. same with cheaper msi models.

or spend the extra cash and tell yourself it's "faster" than the others :D but do note the power needs and dimensions of the various cards. they vary wildly
Gaming X ; cooling is great and it's quiet, has lots of overclocking headroom.

Used it in a build for some relatives, envious. If only I had disposable cash >_>

As for the EVGA I can't tell you much, haven't bought from them for a lil.

A friend just bought that EVGA GTX 1070 FTW GPU. He can play Battlefield 1 & 4, and Star Citizen all maxed out with no issues at all. All without even overclocking the GPU himself. He is playing on the ASUS ROG Swift Curved PG348Q Gaming Monitor, which has a resolution of 3440 x 1440. And let me tell you, those games look awesome at that resolution. That monitor is awesome too! So if you can afford one, get it. Gaming on that monitor is an incredible experience.

He has not had any over heating issues with his GPU. But like I said, he has not needed to overclock it any further. EVGA is offering free thermal pads to GTX 1070 & 1080 owners who want them. http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/

I think you will be very happy with the EVGA 1070.

Thanks for the reply, I was going to go with the EVGA until the eruption of complaints but apparent the problem has been fixed? Anyways you think the EVGA is worth around $15 more than the MSI?

I cannot tell you which 1070 GPU is better. All I can tell you is I am very happy with the performance I've seen from a friends EVGA GTX 1070. And he hasn't had any over heating issues with his thus far. But he also hasn't overclocked it any. I would certainly contact EVGA and ask them about the reported issue before buying the FTW card to see what they have to say.

Only you can decide if the extra $15 is worth it or not. If performance and warranty are the same, I usually go with what ever cost less, as long as it is a reputable brand.

Honestly, you would most likely be happy with either one of those GPUs.

Best of luck with your decision.
