Hey guys, so i want to upgrade my computers graphics card now its getting a little out dated but my worry was the power supply end of thing and i know very little about that end of machine building. i have a cooler master 500 in atm and i dont know where i need a new one to put a new graphics card in. Im running an i5 4690 with 8gb ram and an amd radeon 7870 2GB power color GPU is there anything else i need to take into account and can i stick a bigger badder GPU in there?

For an upgrade, you would start with the RX 470 and go up from there, depending on your budget.

Best price/performance cards (cheapest first):
RX 470
RX 480 4gb
GTX 1060 6gb
The rest are well over $300
For AMD, I recommend Sapphire, ASUS or XFX. For nVidia, I recommend ASUS or EVGA.

I would recommend replacing the PSU though, Coolermaster has come sketchy PSU's out there(especially the cheap ones), only a few are actually good. Here's a reference:

I recommend Seasonic or EVGA (minus the B1, P1...

yeah you can can get away with a 1060 no issues tho i upgrade your psu as for it be getting older i recomend to do the psu every decent overhaul of a desktop that's over 2-3 years to eer on the safe side as effiecentcy & age

Actually, that would be a bit of a downgrade. The 460 may be newer, but it performs a little slower than your 7870. The only advantage it has is lower power draw. A 470 would be an upgrade though.

I recommend Seasonic or EVGA (minus the B1, P1 and W1) models as they make great and affordable PSU's.
