Hello all, I'm looking for a budget mouse to game with, I currently have a cheap wireless mouse that really sucks! I have about £25 budget, done a bit of research have picked a few, I like to play fps games like bf1 and I also play a lot of h1z1 arma 3. I'm used to playing on 1200 dpi on all my games but its hard to find a mouse with that exact dpi. I'm also unsure regarding laser or optical, which one should I get, also scan rate, will there be much difference between 500hz and 1000hz in the games I play. The 4 I have found -

Gigabyte m6900 - 1000hz 800/1600/2000 dpi

Zalman m401r - 500hz 1000/1500/2000/2500 dpi

Logitech g100s - 500hz 250 -2500dpi (Cant seem to find dpi settings for either Logitech mouse)

Logitech m500 - 1000hz Laser

The gigabyte seems pretty good but I don't think I could play on 800 dpi and 1600 seems a bit high, zalman seems ideal for me but will the 500hz effect gaming? I suppose any on these will still be an improvement over what I have now. If any of you have any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I don't know about the polling rate, I think the specs on the a4tech I linked to mentioned 1000hz polling rate. My hands aren't as big as some people's. I don't have those other mice and haven't used them. If it helps the a4tech is around 65mm wide at the top of the buttons, 57mm wide in the middle and 65mm wide at the rear where the palm rests. It's around 127mm long from front to back and about 43mm tall in the center (highest point). Maybe from those measurements it can help you picture it better or compare to your current mouse.

My grip is more of a claw grip vs palm grip. If you like to lay your palm on the mouse with your whole hand over the mouse it might be a bit small, when I rest my palm on it and relax my hand over it my...
I don't know if this one would be a comfortable shape for you or not (mice are a bit subjective).

It's the same one I'm using, I took a chance because it was inexpensive and it's worked really well for me. It may not be perfect, some people don't like laser mice due to tracking accuracy but it hasn't caused me any problems. I'm a casual gamer though, not an aspiring esports pro or anything. Works well for regular pc use, I play skyrim, call of duty, far cry, crysis, fallout etc and have no issues.

Adjustable dpi, the oscar software is supposed to be pretty solid for it, has a weight system in the bottom so you can make it lighter/heavier if you want. A few more buttons than a standard mouse, has an additional button at the top of the left click along with the left/right/center click scroll wheel and a couple thumb buttons.

The a4tech is the replacement I got when my gigabyte m6900 died. The gigabyte mouse died rather quickly (around 6mo), the left click got mushy then would only register every 2-3 clicks until I finally chucked it. Chances are I may have just gotten a bad one but out of all the mice I've used it had the shortest lifespan of any mouse I've ever owned. Love their motherboards, their mice not so much.

You mentioned dpi at 1200 is what you prefer, the a4tech offers that. The dpi selections range from 400dpi, 800, 1200, 1600 and 3000.

That cooler master mouse looks really nice, does it come with software from cooler master. The A4Tech looks decent also, I have quite a big hand so I'm wondering which one would me better, the cm storm looks small and fat compared to the a4tech. I think I would rule out both logitech that I mention, try and decided between the gigabyte m6900/zalman m401r/ cm storm / A4Tech. I'm a big gamer but a casual one, will a laser mouse or a mouse with 500hz polling rate really make a big difference.

My grip is more of a claw grip vs palm grip. If you like to lay your palm on the mouse with your whole hand over the mouse it might be a bit small, when I rest my palm on it and relax my hand over it my fingertips hang off the end of the left/right buttons a little and I have somewhat short sausage fingers. (165mm from heel to index fingertip, 178mm heel to middle fingertip).

That coolermaster RCFProd linked to is similar in height, wider side to side and shorter from front to back than the a4tech I listed. It's definitely designed for claw grip which is what they advertise it as. Either would probably work well depending on your preference.

I'm not entirely up on sensors and things, I think the sensor in the a4tech is a pixart while the cm mouse uses an avago sensor though I think pixart makes the avago sensors now. Some say that laser mice are less consistent in terms of acceleration which they may be. Personally I use a bit of acceleration in windows anyway and game just fine with it as a casual gamer. It's not as though I keep missing shots or scroll past an enemy or anything outrageous. A competition gamer may notice the difference, I just game with whatever mouse I happen to own. Take that into consideration, I'm not saying others are wrong just that it may or may not be noticeable.

synphul thanks for your input, very detailed so I choose it as the best answer, thanks RCFProd also. I'm still going to have a think about it and try and buy the one best suited to my needs, I have more of a palm grip so I'm not sure the cooler master mouse will be best for me. Just do a bit more research on top of what you guys have mentioned and I should find something suitable in my budget.
