Hey guys,

I currently have a GSkill RipjawsX DDR3-1600 4gb. I've been looking for a same one (4gb) for the past 2 weeks now and I couldn't seem to find one around my area.
Will it be okay if I get another brand of memory? Like the Kingston fury - it's the easiest I could find.

Appreciate your answers, thanks!

Solution
use cpu-z to read the model and speed of the ram. google the part number of the ram see if it still sold. a lot of time vendors will change ram chips and change the last one or two letters of there ram kits. if you go with another stick try and match it speed up. (1600 and same timing (9-9-9-9-) in cpuz when you read the ram info. if you get ram with not the same timing you can have issues.

My suggestion is to sell your current 4gb or keep it for a spare.

buy a 2 x 4gb kit. that is supported for your motherboard.

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
This is more difficult when 4 sticks are involved.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.

_____________

+1 also the combo of Fury (which is PnP based) and the GSkill (which is XMP based) quite often can be even more problematic than other combos

I would've done that except I'm in a tight budget right now. I just need to finish editing my video project. =/
