I bought an 8gb MSI RX480 graphics card to upgrade my computer from the old 1gb AMD HD6850. And it never would work for me it wouldn't even post, After further research on here concerning Z68 mobo's and RX480 cards it appears many people are having compatibility problems even if all req'd specs are met. I currently have a I7-2600k, 32gb ram, & 1K watt PSU. Plus I have the needed 8 pin connector directly connected into my PSU and I update the BIOS. And it seems no matter what i did the video card just wouldn't work. So I sent it back and got a replacement and tried it out and it was the same problem all over again. So I sent that one back to newegg aswell and just ended up getting store credit since it was a no refund item.

Does anyone else have a Z68 board with a new video on it? If so let me know what you're running so i can look into buying one of those cards. Oh yes im running an MSI Z68G43 G3 board.

Here is a link to my other video card thread if anyone wants to post on it about anything

Well folks i bought a sapphire R9 Fury 4gb it has dual bios support and it still doesn't work. Does anyone else have a Z68 mobo? if so let me know what video card your running so i can try that one out.

ya, z68 had a lot of issues with newer cards like the gtx 970 as well

all you can do is hope the latest bios update gives new released card support or try another brand and hope ther cards v-bios will handshake with the boards

with the NVidia 900 cards it seemed like evga cards and asrock boards were the worse for any compatibility msi 900 cards seemed to work out the best overall

just google z68 with gtx 970 and see what I mean [also notice how sandy bridge cps come in to play over the ivebridge in use ?? ]

thing is I would of bet on a AMD r9 card to work just fine

ya the r9 didn't despite it being a dual bios. I got the newest 4.x version of bios i dont want to upgrade to the 5.x version cause unless you have an Ivybridge CPU it will brick the mobo. Im thinking i may have to go back as old as an AMD HD7000 series cause those came out around 2012 or 13 and my mobo is a '11. I just need more video power then what i got now

ya, with the 900 cards I see that a sandy cpu is in play a lot there as well funny they work on older boards pretty much with out issue like a x58 you see that said a lot as well so why ??

'''well on my old x58 board that card worked right out of the box '' lol... go figure ??? just something about them z68 platforms and newer cards just don't jive well

thing is I don't see anyone complaining using a AMD card [not to say the newer RX cards may have a issue ] but as far as a R series ?? I'd of thought it would be good to go -0- issues

look here -msi z68 sandy cpu and rx 480 card

https://hardforum.com/threads/rx-480-wont-boot.1903817/

that msi forum I gave above that guy said this as well

''The problem is with you board. All 6 series mainboards need an ME8 (Ivy Bridge) bios to work with latest generation vgas. You have to contact Intel for support and latest bios. If there is no ME8 bios for your board the vga will not work. You'd need a complete upgrade or later Z77 or properly updated Z68 board.''

i went from a 6850 to a 7850 [got 980ti now ] and it was better by far don't know if you cpuld find a ive chip on ebay that would work out ??
