Hello,
I am looking for a CPU to replace my current Athlon II x4 650, as while it does get the job done for most games, it typically manages about 30FPS and leaves little room for frame drops. I have looked at two CPUs, the FX-8350 and i5 4690k. I know that most of you are going to tell me to go with intel because it's obviously better, but how much better is the 4690k to justify the price increase over the FX-8350? I found that getting a FX-8350 with a motherboard comes in at just under or at $200, while the i5 4690k costs $230 while on sale on amazon, and finding a motherboard would bring the cost closer to $300. Will spending the extra $100 only make a marginal difference in comparison to the 8350, or will it net a lot more frames? I will be playing games like Skyrim, Arma 3, and Fallout 4, as well as games like The Forest and Dying Light. What is the performance gap between the two processors in games more focused towards single-threaded processing and multi-threaded, and does it justify the difference in price?

The price of the i5-4690k over the FX-8350 is very justified. However It's even better value to buy an i5-6400/6500, and find a 60-70 dollar motherboard for that one.

Intel's CPU's are just on a completely different level compared to AMD, and you seem to play loads of CPU intensive games.

Thanks for such an expeditious response! I had a look at both the i5-6600k and the i5-6500, and they both performed better than the i5-4690k and much better than I would have thought against the FX-8350. The 6600k looks to perform better than the i5-6500, so I will look into that one more. In addition, the 6600k is also slightly cheaper than the 4690k.
