First off, my apologizes if this is posted in the wrong category.

Second, My birthday is coming up soon and im not sure if I want a new CPU or GPU.

My current GPU is a nvidia geforce gtx 970 and my current CPU is a i5 4690k (havent overclocked it)

I currently play overwatch (with medium settings) which runs very smooth with a average of 140 fps , which works out good as I have a 144hz monitor.

But, I tried h1z1 recently and get from 70-85 fps, which is very laggy to me as it dosent run 144hz.

So, What should I upgrade to run games at 144 fps? Should I get a new GPU to handle the process or a new CPU?

I have a budget around 300-400$

A few games I would want to run at 144fps is H1Z1, Overwatch, Tom Clancy : Siege.

Thanks.

No the EVGA 600B is not an upgrade. The Seasonic S12II 520w Bronze would be a good choice as would the Corsair CX550M. It's a newer better version of what you have now.

I wish that was an option, on H1Z1, all settings on low, 70 fps. :(

Thanks for the response! I have 500W powersupply, would I need to upgrade that first before I get that card?

Try it at 1080p and see what happens.

If its a good gold rated PSU, go for a 107, but you would be really close to the power minimum, you should opt for a 600-650W power supply that is gold rated to give yourself some headroom and not be in danger of frying components. A 1070 and Gold rated PSU from 600W to 650W.

My bad, I should've specified. An 80+ Gold Rated PSU from reputable companies like Antec and Seasonic or even Corsair, EVGA or Cooler Master should be good. As for PSU, I said go for 600-650W since Nvidia's website specifies minimum of a 500W powersupply but it is always good to give yourself headroom, no harm in doing so just not lots of headroom like a 700-800W PSU.

Im surprised however that he cannot play H1Z1 at 144 fps with a good build like the 970 and i5 4690k, I assume just bad optimization since the game had a really rocky start and was an early access title, but that is besides the point. What your other specs? Can you list them? I dont think the 970 is that underpowered that you achieve 144 fps around med settings, people get around 95-100 fps at epic settings at 1080p.

Hi! Thanks for the reply! As requested, here are my additional specs,

Corsair Builder Series CX500 V2 Power Supply
MSI H-81M-P33 MotherBoard
Ripjaws DDR3 8gb 1600

Let me know if you need anymore

Besides that, I was looking at this power supply, EVGA 600B 600W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply, Would this be durable? I relies its not gold rated, but my budget is tight.

I agree, I would personally go with the semi-modular CX550M, it gives you some headroom and it's modular meaning easy installation and easy future installation along with easier cable management.
