I have a new laptop with 8.1 on it. I am setting it up to my specs, removed the bloatware from itand wondered if its possible to create a backup with the windows activated?
I havent activated it just yet

Solution
i just connect to the internet to activate then do an image with macrium reflect free version

i much prefer macrium over acronis but if acronis works ok for you then use acronis

just have had issues with acronis in the past--havent had any issues with macrium even when i use its pre-boot environment to load images if windows wont boot

with acronis that was the bit i had issues with

Okay thanks. Yes, I have an old copy of acronis from years ago that I still use. I was planning on using that.
Im still new to win 8.1 and its a learning experience for me yet.
I figured I would ask first before I tried it thus far. I didnt want to have to re-do all the work I just did.
I normally make a virgin image before I connect to the net or even set up internet connection. I suppose it'll still be virgin as long as I just connect to activate and dont surf anywhere else or I can always use the phone option too? Which is best these days?
