USB devices disconnecting and reconnecting

I'm having issues with some of my USB devices reconnecting constantly on my computer. It's most noticeable with my WD external hard drive as the explorer window constantly opens when this happens. I first thought that it might be an issue with the drive or cable, but I've also been noticing that my audio interface randomly quits working and I have to unplug the cable and plug it back in. I still haven't ruled out that the drive and/or cable isn't bad, but I have tried plugging it in to other ports and the problem persists. Because I've noticed other issues, it's led me to think that it may be a larger problem than just the drive. I don't seem to have any issues with my other devices (mouse, keyboard, etc.). What is the best way to go about troubleshooting USB-related issues?

Welcome to the community, @xjeronx!

I'd suggest you check how your WD external drive is recognized on another computer & also using a different USB cable - that would completely rule it out as the source of the issue. Since this is happening with other USB-powered devices, then you should definitely consider re-installing your USB hub controller drivers straight from the motherboard manufacturer's official website. You should be able to find your mobo model there. Once you find the Support tab & select your OS version, you should be able to see all the available drivers & downloads for the mobo hardware.
If you had any recent Windows Updates, it could have replaced the properly working drivers with some outdated & more...

Hope this helps you. Keep me posted.

Hi SuperSoph_WD,

Thanks for the welcome and the helpful response! I think it may have been an overclocking issue. I had used the Asus AI Suite 3 to overclock my system and noticed an error the other day when I restarted. I restored back to the default BIOS settings and things have been running much better since. No issues with any of my USB devices so far.

Thanks,
Jeron
