Thoughts on pc build?

I am very inexperienced with pc gaming as I have only ever played on consoles, however, the total war games have caught my eye, especially with the release of warhammer!

I am seeking advice with recommended parts for a pc build capable of playing all TW games. I live in Canada and my budget is $1500, I intend to wait until Christmas for possible deals, and am unsure about building it myself or seeking help from a local pc shop as it will be new to me. Thoughts and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

** The current build I am looking at comes out to about $1500**
Intel-Core i7-6700k
Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC
Patriot 2x4GB Viper Elite DDR4-3000
Crucial MX300 1TB
Phanteks Enthoo Pro M case
EVGA Supernova 650W G2
Thermalright Macho Rev B fan
LG 24x DVD burner
Windows 10

Do you think that build will be able to handle third age and warhammer specifically?

Cheers from Canada!
Mike.

Solution
No, the 6600k not the 6600 (the k denotes an unlocked and overclockable CPU) but you can only overclock with a z170 board properly. You could get a k chip and a z170 board in that budget anyway..

Okay thank you for the suggestions! I am very new to this, thought I wanted a gaming laptop the other week, did some research and oh how my mind changed! If you have any other suggestions on improving the build please share! $1500CAN is the budget, but I am willing to spend a bit more if necessary

you need more ram.. games these days are using 16 gb of ram now :D also i agree a 1080 with a 6600k is also a great option. actually a better option IMO. thats if you are 3440*1440p gaming like me

Well first thing would be whether you intend to overclock your CPU because if not you could save a lot of money. Personally I like having the option so you can get a little more from it when it starts to lack in speed, but a lot of people wouldn't.

Gaming laptops are way over-priced and you definitely made the right choice there, plus you will get burnt having it made for you as well and it honestly isn't that difficult to build yourself.

So aside from the need for 16GB and the 1080 paired with 6600 how does the rest look? I'm not looking to play a ton of games, but warhammer is definitely a must! And yes I've heard building it isn't too difficult, just time consuming for a first timer, as well seeing that it is my first ever gaming desktop I may add the over clocking in a next build or later down the road

Well save money getting a non-K chip and a b150/h170 board. z170 is the overclocking/sli chipset. The k-series chips are designed for overclocking. The rest of the build looks good, although you could get a 240gb SSD and a 1tb HDD, a b150 board and then afford a 1080. It's not about spending less money, it's about spending it in the most useful areas and a 1080 would be more beneficial to gaming than an i7 with a 1070.

Much appreciated! And I completely agree, I don't need to play on ultra settings seeing as it's my first real PC experience, high would suffice although max unit size would be a plus! I will replace the new parts and save the build, thanks again!

Edit: would I be able to hook it up to my Haier 32" tv for gaming/movie purposes or would a monitor be much better?

Looks great! great investment i promise you! you will NOT be disappointed. but to reduce the price a 6600 will be more then perfect unless you intend to run SLI or video edit.

Good, getting better, but again it's probably best to get a non-k CPU with a b150 board.

I realize you are enchanted by the 4GHz clockspeed but the non-k i7 6700 has a 4Ghz turbo boost, and you wont need to buy a cooler then either. You definitely wont need a dual liquid cooler unless you are heavily overclocking.

Also, that's a mini ITX board which is fine if thats what you want, and you'd still be ok on ultra settings with a lesser CPU like the 6600k.

Changed to the MSI B150 Gaming 3 instead and different tower, for shipping convienence. I will also lower the cooling then, single fan unit? When you say 6600 do you mean the i5-6600 3.5GHz? If it will run it smoothly then I can't argue the price drop!

Estimated price is $1975 which is very reasonable for the overall outcome!

Multi, with that build would I need something like the DVD burner in the build I first? Or is that irrelevant, I just want to make sure I'm able to install windows properly and am unsure if there will be a disk drive otherwise? (Sorry for the noob question)

Okay perfect! So it's definitely one of those things I can add in later if I want, not required for the build.

Indeed, it is the only way to learn, especially with tech

Edit: do you know of any decent links via YouTube or google that would be a good guide for a first time build similar to the one above?
