Just got a new ssd, building a pc part by part. the pieces I have installed so far are Msi b150m mobo, i5cpu, 735w raidmax psu, and everything else is from the old build, so 1tb hdd, and gigabyte gpu. An issue I had with the ssd is that when it was plugged alongside the hdd, it would get very hot, above body temperature hot. I can't find it anywhere in my computer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm a scrub at this.

Welcome to the community, @Sam!

How are you planning to configure your storage? Do you want to install Windows on the SSD or clone the OS from the currently booting HDD? You should try swapping the SATA cable and the port on the motherboard where the SSD is connected to. Another thing that could help is checking the SATA mode from the BIOS interface and see if the SSD is properly configured in AHCI mode. It might also be a good idea to check your mobo manufacturer's official website for any SATA controller & Chipset driver updates. While on it, make sure you also have the latest BIOS version installed.

Another thing you could try is checking how the SSD would behave if you connect it in another PC or externally via a SATA-to-USB...

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting & best of luck!
