So many cards look the same and I'm lost on what to get.

Hello,
I'm looking to build a gaming computer. I have been looking graphics cards, specifically the nvidia gtx 1080. What I have noticed is there are a lot of other brands that look just like the nvidia packaging and a lot of the cards are indistinguishable from nvidia. Are there differences between these cards? I'm now lost on what to get.

If you mean cards that look like that (the founders edition)

Then they're all exactly the same irregardless of branding.

You should be looking at aftermarket dual/triple fan models though in all honesty.

Both those (the founders edtion) and the the dual/triple fans look the same. I'm not got to get the founders edtion. I was most looking at the dual/tripe fan cards. I'm going to run two cards. I was looking at nvidia cards and I noticed that boxes that the cards come are all very similar across brands. Do you have any advice at what brands I should be looking at.

Something a bit odd with your question, you want to run TWO $600 video cards, but don't know how to go about picking them and what the differences would be. Why are you getting those cards?

It sounds a bit like someone buying a 700 HP Ferrari then asking the salesman what the clutch is used for and why this car has such large tires.

What I'm asking is why are there so many different brands that are using basically the same packaging. Even most of the cards look the same. I know that the all have different specs such as the clock speeds.

I guess basically looking for opinions on what cards to get. I know what cards I get can depend the other hardware I use. So some here is what I'm going to use as hardware so far.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6850K
MOTHERBOARD: Asus ROG Strix X99 Gaming
SSD: Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 1TB
POWER SUPPLY: EVGA Supernova P2 850W I do have a couple of 550W PSUs laying around but I'm not sure that will be enough to run this system.

So any input I could get wi be helpful.

Same reason there are 40 chocolate cereals on the market, different brands, different marketing, different bundles slightly different speeds with some, different cooling, different warranties, etc...

Unless you are planning on playing at 4k resolutions in high end games over the next 2-3-4 years, you don't need dual 1080 cards or the high end i7 you picked out. For 4k a single 1080 with an i5-6600K is plenty.

You should start with what you will be using the system for instead of just picking the most expensive parts.
