Hello,

First of all, sorry if I'm in the wrong section!

I just recently got my new rig and I was quiet generous with the money when I went shopping. These are the Specs:

-CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k

-Cooler: Corsair H100i V2

-Motherboard:
MAXIMUS VIII HERO

-RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB)

-Graphics Card: Asus STRIX GTX 1080 OC Edition (1936 Hz)

-SSD: Kingston Savage 240GB

-PSU: Corsair RM750 Bronze (don't kill me coz its bronze, there was a mistake in the order so i will get the RM750x Gold soon)

-OS: Windows 10 Pro x64.

After i put it all together, updated the drivers to the latest i decided to try out my new rig on The Rise of The Tomb Raider, since i saw Linus Tech Tips use it for a lot of benchmarking (80+ at 2k with Ultra settings).

To my surprise however i could not get beyond the 33 fps mark when setting everything to max. I tried using dx 12 and 11, but only to get a difference of 1 - 3 fps. I had to go with the optimal settings suggested by Geforce experience to be able to actually play at around 60-70 fps, which is still low for a pc with those specs.

This whole "test" that I did was all at 2k.

Is there a bottleneck somewhere here?
Is it just bad game integration?

Please help me know how to get to a better fps at ultra settings(if thats even possible).

Also, off topic, does the PSU make a difference in performance/longevity of parts if its gold or bronze?

Thanks in advance.

High end PCs can utilise SSAA. Very high end models. But SSAA can be used for games like Minecraft for the average user. These options are for those who have extreme builds and want the best possible graphics even at an extreme cost.

Just use the Ultra (Very High) preset and you should see improvement. Geforce experience turns on VXAO which knocks the frames down a good bit sso turning that off will help. When you had 30fps I assume you had SSAA4x enabled which renders 4x your native resolution so the bad performance makes sense. Also make sure you have exclusive fullscreen enabled.

Someone at a forum told me earlier to reduce Anti-aliasing to FXAA (just as u did, which is absolutely correct) and i did that and when i bench-marked the fps averaged at 87 with dx 11 and 84 with dx 12.
Exclusive fullscreen was on through out the benchmarks.
VXAO is was off during the benchmarks. when on the fps dropped by about 15 - 20 fps.

Now here is my question, is this normal? I mean why are these options there when high end PCs cannot utilize them? i mean when they kill fps like that i can only imagine someone with atleast 2 or even 3 way SLI with Titan X Pascal could run that stuff.
